Shantiniketan is a very good place for all visitors.It is a small town near Bolpur in District-Birbhum,West Bengal and it is situated at about 212kms north from Kolkata.It was owned by Tagore family in 1862 by Maharshi Dedendranath Tagore, father of Rabindranath Tagore and he founded an Ashram in 1863 as named Shantiniketan for the Brahmo Samaj.In 1901,Rabindranath Tagore started a school at Shantiniketan named Brahmachary Ashram for study of the ancient gurukul system.This school was later expanded into University as named Visva Bharati by Rabindranath Tagore after receiving the Novel Prize.It is a residential University for students,6500( men & women).The Shantiniketan campus is adorned by splendid trees,cottages, sculptures,frescoes and painting of Rabindranath,Nandalal Bose,Ramkinkar,Binodbehari Mukhopadhyay and others.Shantiniketan is also famous for its fairs and festivals like Poush Mela(Dec.)Joydev Mela(January),Basanta Utsav(Holi) in March and famous mystic Baul Singers.
