Hazarduari Palace Museum is a historical place of interest in Mursidabad and it was built in European architectural style. This palace is a three storied bulding,rectangular on plan (424feets Long,200feets-broad and 80feets-hight)The visiting hour is 9am to 5pm and entry fee is Rs10/ for Indian adult and Rs100/ for Foreigner.The palace remaines closed on every Friday.The Palace is located at Chowk Bazaar near Lalbagh on the banks of river Bhagirathi.Construction work of Palace started on August,9,1829 by Architect Cononel Duncan Macleod and completed on December,1837 under the reign of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah of Bengal,Bihar and Orissa (1824-1838). It has so many places for public attractions like Nizamat Imambara,Murshidabad Clock Tower,Modina Mosque,Footi Mosque,Chawk Masjid,Baccha Wali Tope,the Shia Complex,Wasif Manzil,the two Zurad Mosques and 20 galleries for display.The Palace is very popular for its 1000 doors but it has 100 number false doors and it was converted into a museum having 1034 antiquities,portraits of Nawabs,pieces of ivory,Swards used by Shiraj-ud-Daulla and his grand-father,Nawab Alivardi Khan and even some vintage cars used by varius Nawabs and their families.Formarly the Palace's name was Bara Kothi and its had an alternative name as Nizamat Kila also.The Palace has several large gates as named Dakshin Darwaza,Chawk and Imanbara.The main gates have Naubat Khanna or musicians galleries over them,and the entrances are large and high enough for an elephant to pass with a howdah on its back.The Palace was handed over to Archacological Survey of India and Government of West Bengal in 1985 for better preservation.It is a great trourist spot and one of the 7 wonders in India.Total
construction cost of Hazarduari Palace was Rs16.50 Lacs and that of Nizamat Imambara was Rs6.ooLacs at that time.It is situated at a distance of 1.80km from Murshidabad Railway Station.
