Visit to Kolkata,West Bengal

Kalkata is a great city of joy and the capital of West Bengal.In past,it was known as Calcutta and it has so many interesting  places and visiting sides for national and international tourists like a)Alipur Zoo (Zoological Gargen),b)Victoria Memorial,c)MP Birla Planetorium,h)Rabindra Seth(Howrah Bridge),i)Bidyasagar Seth(2nd Hooghly Bridge),j)Jorasanko Thakur Bari,k)Yuva Bharati Kriranagan(Salt Lake Stadium),l)Nicco Park,m)Science City,n)Metro Rail,o)Kolkata Airport,p)Shaheed Minar etc.

a)Alipur Zoo is known as Zoological Garden and it is situated at 2,Alipur Road,Kolkata-700027 near Taj Bengal Hotel and Train Station Khidirpur,Metro Station Netagi Bhavan,Bus Stop Akbalpur at the distance appox.7km from Howrah,Sealdah Station and 22km from Kolkata Airport.Alipur Zoo was established in 1875 and opened for public on 1st,May,1876.Entry free is now Rs10/ per child below 5 years,and Rs25 for above 5years person on Monday to Wednesday and Friday but Rs30 per head on govt.holiday, Saturday & Sunday.Free extra  Rs5/ is for Aqurium  inside the Zoo and Rs250 per hour for Video Photography per head. Opening Time-9.00AM and Closing Time-5.00PM.Weekly Closing date of the Zoo is Thrusday if it is not a holiday and Zoo remains open in all govt. holidays.

b)Victoria Memorial was built up 1906 to 1921.Visiting time is 10.00AM to 5.00PM, remains open
everyday.It is situated at 1,Queen Way.Kolkata-700071 and it is a large marble building in Kolkata.
It was dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria(1819-1901) and it is a popular tourist spot of WB.

c)MP Birla Planetorium was officially opened on 2nd,July,1963 by Pandit JL Nehru.It is situated at the corner of Shakespeare Sarani and Cathedral Road.Two special shows are performed on Sunday and Govt. holiday at 10.30am in Hindi,11.30am in Bengali. Daily shows are available at 12.30pm,2.30pm,4.30pm in Hindi, 3.30pm,5.30pm in English and 1.30pm,6.30pm in Bengali.Entry fee is Rs50 a show for above 5years & adult.It is situated near Victoria Memorial in central Kolkata at a distance of appox. 3.50KM from Howrah,Sealdah Station and appox. 18KM from Kolkata Airport.

d)Indian Museum was built up in 1814 at 1,Park Street,kolkata-700016.Entry Fee is Rs20/ for Indian Adult,baby free and Rs500/ for Foreigner.Visiting time is 10.00am to 4.30pm(Dec. to Feb.) and 10.00am to 5.00pm(March to Nov.)Weekly closing date is every Monday and Govt.holiday.It is situated at Central Kolkata,appox.2.50KM from Howrah,Sealdah Station and appox.17KM from Kolkata Airport.

e)Kalighat Kali Temple was completed in 1809. Adi Ganga is just nearer to Kalighat Kali Temple which is connected to River Hooghly.So many piligrams and bhaktas are coming daily to offer pujas from defferent States of India and foreign countries.New construction and repairing work of Kali Temple are run by Tourism Development Corporation,Govt. of West Bengal.

 f)Dakshineswar Kali Tample is Hindu temple located at eastern banks of Hooghly river at Dakshineswar in north Kolkata.The large temple complex was built up by Rani Rasmani in 1847 to 1855 for Goddess Kali,God Shiva, Radha-Krishna and Sita-Rama.Ramakrishna was the 2nd Priest from 1856 for 30years.He died at the age of fifty in 1886.It is situated at a distance appox. 8KM from Howrah,Sealdah Station and 17KM from Kolkata Airport.

g)Eden Garden Stadium was opened in 1957 and its capacity is 95,000.It is situated in BBDBag near High Court and Akhasbani Bhavan.The owner of the Stadium is Bengal Cricket Association.It is well-equiped with over head flood light for night cricket play.

h)Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium ) is a multipurpose Stadium in Bidhannagar with the current capacity of 68,000.Its other name is Vevekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan and the Owner is Indian Football Association.The Stadium was opened in January1984 with area 76.40 acres.The Stadium lies on the East-West Corridor on the Kolkata Metro.

i)Rabindra Setu(Howrah Bridge) is a suspension type balance cantilever & truss arch.This bridge was constructed by BBJ in 6 years (1936-1942) by 26,000 Tonne of high tension steel(Tisco) and opened for public on 3rd,Feb,1943.Total length of bridge is 705 meters,Height-82 meters,Width-21.60meters(both side foot path-4.60 meters)More than 1lakh vehicles pass over the bridge daily and appox. 1.50lakhs pedestrians move daily by both foot paths.Howrah Bridge was renamed Rabindra Setu on 14th,June,1965 as per Bengali Poet Rabindranath Tagore.

j)Bidyasagar Setu (2nd Hooghly Bridge) is a longest cable-stayed road bridge with dead load composite desk structure across on the river Hooghly.Its length is 823meters,width-35meters,Construction of bridge started by BBJ on 3rd,July,1979 and opened for traffic on 10th,Oct,1992 for appox. 85,000 vehicles.No pedestrian allows movement over this bridge.Cost of bridge was Rs3.88million.This bridge named after the educationist Pandit Ishwar Chandra Bidyasagar.Levies are taken for all vehicles from Howrah side in day and night.

k)Jorasanko Thakur Bari is Birth place of Kabi guru Rabindranath Tagore and it is situated at 6/4,Dwarakanath Tagore Lane,Jorasanko,Kolkata-700007,near Rabindra Bharati University.It was founded on May,1962.Our great poet spent his most childhood in Jorasanko Thakur Bari and died also here on 7th,August,1941.It is situated in area of north Kolkata,at a distance,appox, 2KM from Howrah,Sealdah Station and appox. 17KM from Kolkata Airport.

l)Nicco Park is situated at Salt Lake Bypass Road,Jheel Meel,Sector-4,Salt Lake City,Kolkata-7000106 and it is the biggest amusement parks with 30 attractions in Kolkata.It was set up in 1991 and spreads across 40 acres in area.This park has appox. 35 different rides for all age groups and a house lakes for boating.Nicco Park is a great place of tourist attractions.There are an exclusive Rose Garden, a big Food Park and Amusement Park.Time of opening of Park is 11.00am-8.00pm(Winters) and 11.00am-9.00pm(Summers). Entry fee is Rs150 per person and remain open in all days.Distance of Nicco Park is appox. 7KM from Sealdah,12KM from Howrah and 10KM from Kolkata Airport.

m)Science City is an educational centre of science for students and all persons.It is situated at JBS Haldane Avenue,East Topsia,Kolkata-700046 and was opened on 1st,July,1997 by Sri IK Gujral,PM of India.There are so many attractions like Dynamotion Hall,Earth Exploration Hall,Space Odyssey,SD Vition Theater,Mirror Magic,Time Machine,Scince Exploration Hall,Scince Park,Emerging Technologies,Evolutio of Life a dark ride,Panrama of Human Evolution etc. Science

p)Shaheed Minar was known as formally Ochterlony Moument.It was situated at 11,Rani Rashmoni Avenue,Kolkata-700069.It was designed by JK Parker and construction started in 1825.It was completed in 1828 and renovated in 2011.It is also called Shaheed Minar and its height is 48meters.
